The work of eight children stood out from among 135 entries in Kovarts’ pre-opening SPRING Art contest held from 9 to 23 December 2022. They won the participants gift vouchers and hampers, presented to them by Special Guest former actor Edmund Chen at the official opening of Kovarts on 7 January 2023.
The contest was opened to children in three categories – for preschool, primary school and those above 12 years old. Participants were required to colour a segment from a 600-metre drawing entitled “Spring”, which had won Edmund Chen the Guinness World Record in 2013 for the longest drawing by an individual.
Kovarts is the brain-child of the Crestar Education Group, which manages Crestar Learning Centre for enrichment and four preschool brands. It is believed to be the first inclusive arts learning space in People’s Association’s Kovan Hub in Hougang Street 21.
It has been designed as an inclusive and accessible “Arts for all” centre, offering programmes for seniors, adults, children and those differently-abled in the Paya Lebar-Kovan neighbourhood.
Some 150 guests attended the official opening. Guest of Honour was the Adviser to Aljunied GRC Grassroots Organisations, Mr Alex Yeo Sheng Chye. Former actor Edmund Chen, who is now an author and illustrator, graced the occasion as Special Guest to present prizes to winners of the SPRING Art contest.
